Planting With Purpose

On Friday 25th July 2025, Tanoa Hotels proudly planted 300 mangrove seedlings along the coastal area of Taiperia, Lautoka. This marks another important milestone in our long-term commitment to environmental stewardship, bringing our total to 1,200 mangroves planted in the region since 2023.

Mangroves are one of the most vital, yet often overlooked ecosystems on the planet. They act as natural barriers against coastal erosion, support rich marine biodiversity, and play a powerful role in capturing carbon from the atmosphere.

“Mangroves play a critical role in safeguarding our coastlines and supporting marine life,” said Narend Kumar, Area General Manager Fiji.

“We’re proud to be part of this effort to create a healthier, more resilient environment for future generations.”

This latest planting was more than just an environmental initiative, it was a team effort. Staff from across the hotel group rolled up their sleeves and got involved, reinforcing the shared responsibility we all have in protecting our natural world.

Sustainability Manager, Roneel Ravinesh Chand, highlighted that mangrove restoration is one part of Tanoa Hotels’ broader environmental action plan.

“Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond planting trees. We’re actively reducing our ecological footprint by phasing out single-use plastics, introducing refillable bathroom amenities, installing water refill stations, and piloting a glass crusher to manage waste more effectively.”

These changes, though operational in nature, are guided by a clear purpose: to make responsible choices that align with long-term conservation goals. They also reflect our belief that hospitality and sustainability can and should go hand in hand.

The mangrove seedlings planted in Lautoka were sourced from a village community nursery in Rakiraki. By working with local youth groups to source and grow the seedlings, this initiative also contributes to community empowerment, offering income opportunities while encouraging environmental stewardship.
