Whether you’re headed to Fiji, Samoa or Tonga, a Tanoa Hotel is waiting for you. Easy to find. Hard to leave.
Built Into Everything We Do
Sustainability isn’t a programme at Tanoa Hotels. It’s how we operate. As a Pacific-owned group founded on the belief that business and community rise together. We have a responsibility to the islands, oceans, and people we call home — and we take that seriously.
In 2024, we launched our Group Sustainability Strategy at the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, in the presence of the Prime Minister. Here’s what we’re doing to back it up.
By the numbers
The facts that define our commitment:
- 145,426 plastic bottles eliminated from guest rooms annually
- 72 tonnes of recyclable material diverted from landfill to date
- 70%+ of food and supplies sourced from local Pacific producers
- 10,000 mangrove and native trees to be planted by 2026
- 3,300kg of waste collected from beaches and coastlines on World Environment Day alone
- 50% reduction in CO₂e emissions targeted by 2030
- 98 tonnes of CO₂e projected annual savings from rooftop solar at Tanoa Waterfront Hotel (future project)
- 350,000 litres of rainwater to be harvested annually from 2025
Guiding Principles
Environment

From eliminating single-use plastics to trialling on-site glass crushers, installing EV charging stations, and planting mangroves along Fiji’s coastlines, every Tanoa Hotel operates as a local sustainability hub. Solar hot water systems are standard across all sites. LED and solar lighting upgrades save 5.75 tonnes of CO₂e annually. Two electric vehicles are now in daily operation, avoiding approximately 8 tonnes of CO₂e per year.
Community
More ›
Over 70% of our food and operational supplies are sourced directly from local farmers, growers, and small businesses across Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga. Team members who run family farms are invited to supply produce to our hotel kitchens. In partnership with the Reddy Foundation, we invest in health, education, and climate resilience across all three nations.

Our Group Sustainability Strategy was launched publicly at the Pacific Islands Forum in Nuku’alofa in August 2024, commended by the Prime Minister of Tonga. A dedicated Sustainability, Health and Safety Manager, mentored by international ESG expert Lee Stewart, leads implementation across all eight properties. A cross-functional Sustainability Task Force tracks KPIs quarterly against our 2030 targets.

Little Acts, Big Impact – 2025 Update
At Tanoa Hotels, we believe that little acts lead to big impact. In choosing to embrace simple sustainable habits during your stay, such as turning off your lights when you leave your room or putting the air conditioning on a timer, you’re directly contributing to our efforts to save water, energy, and reduce emissions.
Together, we can create a future where travel leaves a lighter footprint. Join us in making sustainability a part of your travel experience.
Little Acts
Lights Out
You may notice the lights in your room are off upon arrival to conserve energy. Feel free to adjust the lighting to your comfort level and remember to turn them off when you head out to explore.
Island Air
Breathe in the warm island air—you’ve arrived! Your air conditioning unit will be off upon entry, but feel free to adjust it to your preference. We recommend setting it to 19-21°C whilst in your room.
Less Laundry
If you’d like fresh bed linen, place the “Little Acts, Big Impact” sign on your bed. If you’re happy to help us reduce energy use, skip the sign, and we’ll simply tidy up and make your bed. To reuse your towels, hang them up; for fresh towels, leave them on the floor.
