A LITTLE PIECE OF HISTORY…
Fiji was a British colony (until 1970) and Nadi was used as a training base for the allied forces during World War 2. The country did not have a regular military force and received a large contingent of troops from New Zealand, which assumed responsibility for defending Fiji.
After the Empire of Japan bombed the US-controlled Pearl Harbour in Hawaii in 1941, the Pacific War began and Nadi was soon used as a base by the US Ari Force. Fiji’s strategic location made it a refuelling center and dispersion point against Japanese targets in the Philippines and Solomon Islands.
The hotel was originally built circa 1970 as the Nadi Travelodge and the Bula Bar was the place for troops to wind down after the day’s activities. It was common knowledge on the restrictions soldiers had with alcoholic beverages so codes were used between Barmen and soldiers to order alcohol.
