The Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel, part of Fiji’s largest Hotel Group, suffered significant damage from Tropical Cyclone Winston and was forced to close all operations.
Since that fateful event the team at Tanoa Rakiraki, supported by the Tanoa Hotel Group and the Reddy Group have been working hard to start returning the property to its former glory. On 01 July 2016 the first stage of the rebuild will be completed with the reopening of 10 accommodation rooms and the main services building which incorporates the Reception, Restaurant and Bar.
Mr Matthew Gillespie, Area General Manager for Tanoa Hotels says, “We are all very proud to be able to reopen Stage One of the rebuild of the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel on 01 July 2016. The Hotel was badly hit by TC Winston and Our People were all personally impacted. I, and all the senior members of the Tanoa Hotel Group and the Reddy Group, are so very proud of the actions and determination displayed by Hotel Manager Rameshwari Mani and her Team on the night and every day since. They have displayed the true Fijian Spirit and the Tanoa Way on a daily basis. They never gave up or lost hope, and have worked very hard to return “their” Hotel to an operational status.”
“Stage One of the rebuild has focused on getting the property back operating as soon as possible, while ensuring that it is ready to meet the needs of our guests. We have refurbished the “barracks” building to give us 10 self-contained Hotel rooms at a Standard Room quality. These comprise 6 Double rooms and 4 Single rooms. Significant repair works have been undertaken on the main building to reopen the Reception, Kitchen, Restaurant and Bar. The team have worked very hard to re-beautify the property, and have made impressive efforts to get the gardens and pool area back to their former glory.”
“Stage Two involves rebuilding the remaining accommodation blocks, and we hope to commence this later this year. However it has been our focus initially to return this historic property, and Our People, back to work. We have retained our full time employee’s on payroll since TC Winston as we believe the best way to assist them is to keep them employed. While they have all been fantastic in cleaning up the property and working on the gardens etc, it is time to get them back to what they do so well, looking after our guests and delivering the truly Fijian Tanoa experience on the Suncoast.”
