Tanoa Hotel Group Chairman, Mr Y P Reddy has announced that they have successfully concluded discussion with the Government of Tonga resulting in an agreement to renovate, refurbish and manage what is presently knows as the International Dateline Hotel in Nuku'alofa.
Y P Reddy said "It is no secret that we have been, for some time now, actively considering having a substantial presence in the Tongan hospitality market which effectively complements our existing Hotel operations in Fiji, New Zealand and Samoa and we are delighted with this outcome". "The Hotels excellent waterfront location, proximity to the business district, extensive grounds and gardens are ideal for our refurbishment plans"
When asked about the future of the hotel Mr Reddy confirmed that the hotel will undergo a major transformation which will impact on all operational and public areas. Mr Reddy further commented "It is our intention to offer our guests the best appointed guest accommodation and facilities in Nuku'alofa and bring back this once iconic hotel to its former glory". The hotel will be refurbished to a four star standard and will appeal to the corporate, international leisure, visiting friends and families (VFR) and conference markets.
Work on the refurbishment will be complete within 24 months and the hotel will reopen as the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel.
Finally, Mr Reddy thanked the Government of Tonga and in particular the Honourable Minister Eke, The Minister of Finance and National Planning and his team for this opportunity which will bring long term benefits to the Tongan people via employment opportunities, local industry through local procurement and the tourism sector and the Kingdom of Tonga itself.
